Traffic! What is it about Wednesday’s that causes the level of traffic to skyrocket? I thought there must have been a bus strike as there has been some talk of it but people were standing at the stops so that couldn’t be it.
I have to take Monique to school at Karabar every morning and I quite enjoy the drive and being up and about but it really does make you wonder why there isn’t more accidents on the roads. What is it about driving that makes normally sane people take ridiculous risks when they get in their cars? With trucks, tailgaters, Mario Andretti impersonators and the rest it can be a little stressful.
For that reason I take the long way home past Googong Dam but that has it’s hazards too. Slow moving trucks, winding road out of Queanbeyan, turning cars from Burra and Mt Campbell but overall it’s a nice drive through pleasant country. Getting onto the Monaro Highway it’s another story! I’m sure Mark Webber would struggle to record the fastest time from the Old Cooma Road turnoff into Tuggeranong. The speed limit is 100kph of course but at 110 you have at least 5 or 6 six cars rammed up your backside bumper to bumper! I’m sure the police department never send anyone out there as well patrolled roads seem to calm drivers down. The worst offenders seem to be ladies in 4wd’s with  load’s of kids. Go figure.
At least it’s hump day at work and it’s notable because we are of course leading into a long weekend which is always welcome. There are of course plenty of volunteers to work the Monday at AP which I can never understand but it does ensure that I will not have to front up to help out.
We have a new regional manager which is a nice and timely change but things seem to be running as amateurishly as ever and there is a lot of uncertainty about the future. There seems to have been a push to get rid of managers who are over 45 but as a result we have a group now with little experience in actual mail processing and no desire to learn. Arrogance is rampant and the morale of the staff is at an all time low. The managers are unwilling to listen are driving people into the arms of the union, the only ones who can tell the truth it seems.
It always amazes me that they think getting rid of older managers is the right why to go. All they have done is get rid of knowledge and experience and replaced it with people who don’t know how to handle the job properly. Youthful managers don’t guarantee competence! They don’t seem to appreciate that we need to know what the future holds for us with Australia Post. Let’s hope things improve.
Now I have finished rambling for the day it is time to contemplate some cycling. It is a nice day and as long as the pedestrians aren’t too thick on the bike paths things should work out enjoyably.
