Is the Earth trying to tell us something? Man, an 8.9 earthquake in Japan is something that doesn’t happen everyday. I heard that it was a 1000 times more powerful than Christchurch’s quake (of course I’m not comparing them but it is interesting).
With this and NZ, quakes in other areas, floods and massive cyclones in Australia and elsewhere I guess it would be easy to jump to conclusions and suggest that global warming is causing it all. But I’m not so sure.
I’m certainly a believer in global warming. It is a scientific fact. That is what is happening on the planet Venus causing it to be uninhabitable even for probes from earth.I think the last one they sent there lasted 20 minutes before it burnt up! That’s hot!
I don’t think anyone with a fair mind could convincingly argue that spewing tonnes of gas into the atmosphere every second of every day of every year can be harmless and not even causing minute damage. Eventually it will start to hurt our planet and I’m in favour of steps to begin to decrease the output of carbon into the atmosphere.
That being said I don’t think there is much evidence that the natural disasters that we have been experiencing over the last little while have been caused by man made interference. We have always had disasters like this. You don’t have to go back through history books very far to read about devastating events caused by mother nature. Of course in the old days it was put down to God’s will (and I’m sure some people still do put it down to that!). I think it is because we are just not use to these things happening and it comes as a shock to us all.
The quake in Christchurch affected many people here in Australia badly because we are so close to the Kiwis both physically, spiritually and mentally. I had been to Christchurch just 2 years previously and can only imagine the devastation that has been caused to that beautiful city. I know they will rebuild. The human spirit is an amazing thing and people are resilient and life will return to normal eventually. There is always light at the end of the tunnel.
Here in Canberra life goes on normally. I have had a very pleasant and relaxing day so far. So often the weekends become a rush and you are more stressed out by Sunday night than you would be working through the week. Of course this weekend we are lucky to be celebrating Canberra Day on Monday and have the day off.
I went cycling this morning. The continuing quest to regain some fitness and lose some weight. Whilst my legs don’t feel too bad my body is still letting me down. Just have to keep plugging away and the fitness will come eventually.
After that it was off to the Hyperdome to raid Angus and Robertson. They are having a closing down sale and books are 50% off. The shelves are getting pretty bare but I couldn’t help myself and bought a couple of books. As usual I ran into people I work with. Rarely do I go there and not run into someone I know.
So now it is back home and the day is drawing to an end. There is plenty I could or should be doing but I will take advantage of the slow pace of life today and just enjoy it. Ciao.
