Woke up this morning to the pleasant news that Cadel Evans had won the penultimate stage of the Tirreno to Adriatico road race in Italy. He is leading the race and only has to survive a 10km time trial tonight to take the race overall. He should do it although little time trials can be unpredictable sometimes.
Last night’s stage was 189km and finished in one of those little hilltop towns that Italian cycling organisers seem to love so much. It was a bit of a drag race to the finish but Cadel manhandled some very good riders to win the stage. Basso, Gesink, Cunego, Scarponi, Nibali, Visconti, Gilbert were all there so it is not a second class field by any stretch.
This particular Tour has been going for around 50 years and is a very important race. One of the first big races on the calender so it will look good on Cadel’s palmares should he hold on tonight.
It runs from the Tirreno coast to the Adriatic coast (at least in principle) thus giving the race it’s name. The scenery is spectacular although I don’t think they are having much time to look as it has been raced hard and fast and it looks like no quarter has been given. Chapeau Cadel!
Finishing up our long weekend here today. Canberra Day gives us the opportunity for an extra day to the weekend much to the disgust of many Queanbeyanites just across the border (although many of them work in the ACT of course!)
Unfortunately for me much of public holiday was spent cleaning carpets! First moving furniture, vacuuming and then using the carpet cleaner from Woolworths. Boring! You should have seen the muck that came out of the carpet. Ugh! It’s still not dry in lounge room and I have the fan going full bore hoping that it might aid in drying it so I can move some furniture back before I go to work. It would also help if the sun came out!
Back to the mail centre today. Back to the mindnumbing boredom of mail sorting. I need to get a bit brave and try to do something new. We’ll see.
Well, I’m going to drink my cup of tea and seeing as though it looks like it is not going to rain I better get off this computer and do something productive like mow the lawn! Bye.
