Friday!

Well it’s the day we have all been waiting for. Friday! It seems that life is just one big countdown. You start work on Monday and from the moment you walk in you are counting down. Two hours till morning tea. After that, two hours till lunch. After that two hours till afternoon tea, two hours till home time. 4 days till Friday! You get my drift!? Now we are finally at Friday and we are counting down to a weekend that is going to go ever so quickly and then we will have to start counting down again. Like mice in a wheel. Never getting anywhere.
Whoever it was who said “Life is what happens whilst you are making other plans” got it dead right. For some reason I think it was John Lennon but I could be completely wrong. It wouldn’t make sense for me to agree with something Lennon said, as great a musician as he was.
I was talking to a young guy at work the other night who asked me how long I had been at Australia Post. I almost shuddered when I heard my own words. 24 years. Ouch! I think he was tossing up whre his future might lie and how long he should stay. I’m hardly the person to be giving him any advice.
I think (in my infinite wisdom, haha) that you have to try to live your life as best you can outside work and that makes work a hell of a lot easier. I’ve seen so many people over the years get so involved with work that it becomes their life and they have nothing else. They look forward to retirement but have nothing to live for when they do because work was their life!
I’ve been lucky in the last few years that I have been able to establish a very easy, enjoyable life away from my work station. Of course I have moments of frustration and crankiness but I have really settled down and I’m enjoying things for the most part.
So here is what I say. Take your mind of the countdown and get out and live your life. Have fun with your friends and do things. Ruts cause depression and depression is no good.
So I hope everyone takes my advice and has a great weekend. Seeya.
