Well we are back at the start of another week. The old treadmill keeps turning.
I have had a long weekend as I blew off work on Friday. My niece Kelly and her husband and daughter are heading back to Fiji this week so I preferred to spend time with them rather than go to work. I use to feel guilty about having sickies but not anymore. The new regime at work deserve no loyalty or respect. They give none so that is what they get in return.
Then it was off to Sydney on Saturday morning for a two day sojourn to see Neil Diamond in concert at Homebush on Saturday evening and then Lionel Richie Sunday evening on the way home at Bowral.
Now Sydney isn’t my favourite place in the world but then I have spent most of the time I have been there in the western suburbs which is not exactly my cup of tea. This time though I was staying near the heart of the city in Paddington which was much more to my liking. Once we were throught the nasties of the traffic into town the historical ambience of the eastern suburbs tickled my fancy. I love terraced houses and of course Paddo is one of the only places in Australia, the other being the inner city suburbs of Melbourne that you can see these places. To me they evoke the images of the old Australia. I have just read that most of them were built between 1850 and 1890 so that makes them very old indeed in terms of Australian history. Walking through Paddington’s leafy streets and lanes I couldn’t help think of all the people who had lived there over all the years. Kids playing footy and cricket in the laneways, the community feel of living in such close proximity to others and the hard life that some of the people living in the area must have had.
Of course Paddo is now a very exclusive suburb and the houses are worth a motza and the current residents possibly never give the earlier inhabitants much of a thought and although I found an arrogant air running through the populace I must say I really liked the place.
I was staying in a single bedroom apartment on Sutherland Street and although it too looked to be in need of a bit of renovation (apart from a newly installed kitchen) I could have seen myself living there in my bachelor days. What better inducement could there be to a girl than to be invited home to a top floor dwelling in Paddo with stunning views to the city? One can only dream, haha.
In the evening it was out to Homebush to see Neil Diamond in concert. A short detour through Lidcome and a feedstop at the local KFC quickly reminded me of the shortcomings of our multicultural society so it was great to get to Homebush and Acer Arena to see Neil Diamond put on a show.
Now whilst Neil has never been my favourite singer I certainly love the songs that he has written and I must say he put on a great show. It’s nice to be able to go and see a legendary artist and find that he still has “it”.
Sunday morning saw us perusing Oxford Street in Paddington and lunch at the RSL Club. Nothing excting but a relaxing day nonetheless.
On the way home it was a stop at Bowral to see Lional Richie at “A Day on the Green”. Again another very famous artist putting on a great show. The only thing that spoiled it was the apalling log jam in the carpark afterwards.
So after dodging foxes, running rats, kangaroos and the like on the way home and dropping of our travelling companions I finally made it into bed at 12.40am! I am a little weary this morning so have bludged most of it by playing on the computer. I figure as most of the rest of the day is going to be spent in the mindless boredom of service to Australia Post then I owe myself one this morning. Seeya.
