It’s cold! 17 degrees. I’ve got a cold, albeit quite a slight one bringing with it a slight headache.
I’ve got to say that I am feeling a bit frustrated with life at the moment. It’s nothing to worry about and I get like this occasionally. Probably to do with the weather, feeling off colour and the general hassle of everyday life.
I really enjoy just sitting here with a cup of tea writing or just viewing the net. I find Facebook and Twitter to be enjoyable tools and I think it’s amazing that there is always someone in the media or in your life trying to convince others of the evils of Facebook! Perhaps it has it’s dangers for kids as they can be cruel and can use it for bullying and other unpleasant things but as I was explaining to someone yesterday it’s really just another tool for keeping up with people like email etc. Twitter in particular is a great source of info and it’s remarkable that you can link and converse with notable people through that site.
Perhaps the people who criticize have never used Facebook or just don’t get it or don’t want to get it. Anyway, it’s their loss. It keeps my small mind amused whenever I use it.
I know it would be no surprise to anyone who has ever read anything I’ve written that my workplace is keeping me peeved at the moment. It is never great but this week it has been particularly annoying. A combination of factors is involved in this I think. Some incredibly bad management by the fellow who runs the place, some very ordinary and annoying behaviour from an acting Supervisor, the lack of foresight by those in charge and the fact that many people who I get along very well with and who make my workday bearable are on holidays. It leaves a small group of people to talk to and makes the day longer and more boring. Couple that with a few personal frustrations and you get a big malaise in attitude and performance.
I think contributing to it also is the frustration of knowing that I would struggle to find another job if I wanted to and also the coming changes at the mail centre which will drastically affect us yet no one in charge seems to be too worried about us. I need a holiday before too long. Will have to start planning some time off.
Anyway, these frustrating periods never affect me for too long and I’m sure I will be back to normal soon. Feeling like this just makes the days stretch out and the feeling of monotony increase. Even the drive home feels longer! Nothing to do but to keep on battling away.
I’ve been cycling for the last 2 days which has been good. With the feelings that I mentioned above it can be hard to get motivated but once I get out I start to enjoy it and it really helps out, physically and mentally. Today perhaps I will forgo a ride as I have a cold and the weather is threatening. The weekend is supposed to very fine so with a bit of luck I can get out and enjoy myself then.
I just wanted to mention something about the NSW election that was held on Saturday. A rotting Labor Government that was in for 16 years was voted out in a massacre and rightly so although I don’t think the replacement, the Barry O”Farrell led Liberal/National Coalition is much of a better option albeit a fresh one that should lift NSW’s morale for a little while at least.
The local member just across the border from here in the seat of Monaro was Labor man Steve Whan. Monaro is a very dicey electorate for both sides of the political spectrum because it’s inhabitants range from the working class residents of Queanbeyan to the rural, National Party leaning areas of Bega and the south coast and generally goes to whichever side has the political momentum.
So as you can guess with the tide decidedly against the Labor Party it was always going to be hard for Steve to hold his seat and alas he did lose it, but only just which considering the circumstances was a gallant result.
And it’s a shame. I have met Steve Whan on a couple of occasions and been to his home because Linda taught his son and got to know him reasonably well. He is a very honest and decent person who had a passion for his electorate and worked very hard in every part of it. He was also Emergency Services Minister in the last term of the recent government and also worked very hard in that portfolio. Even the National Party candidate that deposed him publicly said that Steve had been a very effective member! Steve restored my faith in those who run for high office. In a rotting, ineffective government he remained the same hard working honest politician that he had always been and it is Monaro’s loss that they didn’t see fit to give him another go.
