The saga of the Parcel Centre drags on. On Monday all the great minds of the Canberra Division of Australia Post were gathered for a Consolidation meeting which is basically just to discuss how things are going to be done in the future. The word that came out of that meeting is that they were now looking at Mitchell Delivery Centre for parcels and the Mitchell night sorters would come to the mail centre! Now I won’t bore you with why I think that is an untenable choice but needless to say closer examination of that option saw it collapse before it really gained any traction. So I don’t know what they will do. I don’t think they know to do! I’d love to see their business plan although at this stage I have serious doubts that they even have one.
The bottom line is that Australia Post is not prepared to spend money to build a facility to sort parcels in Canberra and the truth be known there is not really enough of a parcel stream here to warrant it. They are trying to wing it with a cheap option that isn’t going to get past the planning stage. It’s all a bit embarrassing really. They claim that the parcel business is where Australia Post will earn it’s keep in the future yet they don’t want to invest in infrastructure for that business for the future. Crazy. God knows where it will go from here.
I did have one of those days on Tuesday that makes you wonder if you screwed your head on right when you got up that morning. I had to take someone to the airport and not being used to the traffic or the ever changing parking arrangements out there, I managed to get beeped for apparently doing something that someone didn’t like. Luckily my passenger was a lady who is blind so she couldn’t see whether I was doing well or not! Then as I was escorting this lady and her guide dog into the terminal I managed to walk straight past the lift I intended to use to get to check in. I asked the young girl at the Thrifty car rental desk where the lift was and she pointed back in the direction I had come with that “what an idiot” look on her face.
I got my friend off alright but then had trouble trying to pay for my ticket to get out of the carpark. A very unamused fellow behind me pointed out how I should be using the payment machine and my attempt at humour didn’t seem to convince him that I was anything but an imbecile. Cue another “what an idiot” look! Ah well. You have those days. After that I thought it might be good idea just concentrate more whilst I was driving as I thought that having such an airhead of a day I could easily run into someone and just really make things great. Luckily I made it through Tuesday in one piece. Have a great weekend!
