It’s been one of those periods lately where things seem to go wrong all the time. It started a couple of weeks back when the washing machine broke down. Then my car broke down. Then our dishwasher broke down. They do say everything happens in three’s though don’t they?
God I hate cars. If it was possible to live life as it is without one I would most assuredly do it. I have had a bit of trouble with mine already this year and now it is gone again. It is not even turning over. I don’t know if it’s the battery that’s shot, starter motor….who knows? I have been lazy about getting it looked at because we now have a third car that I have been driving so it hasn’t been an urgent matter getting mine back on the road. I suppose sooner or later I will have to bite the bullet and get something done about it. I have always been a bit socially phobic. Making phone calls to get things done has always been a trauma. I am not as bad now as I was years ago but I will still look for excuses not to do it when I can. No way out of this though. Have to get proactive and get the Proton going again.
Then there is the dishwasher. Linda has volunteered to make that phone call. It has been flashing lights and cutting out halfway through it’s cycle. Probably something stuck in it somewhere. Our plates don’t get rinsed very well before they go in so I daresay there could be anything stuck in it. Piece of broken glass, carrot, any sort of vegetable.
Of course the biggest hassle of the week will be the carpet man. Linda has wanted new carpet in three rooms for some time and the carpet man is coming, hopefully, on Tuesday. The real downside to this is the crap we have in these three rooms. It is not going to be a pleasant job moving stuff around as it is heavy and there is plenty of it. I don’t think Linda minds as she is not the one who has to shift it. I’m certainly not looking forward to it!
So it looks like it is going to be a busy week and that is before factoring in work and the monotonous boredom of that. Although with the week I’m likely to have at home work may provide a nice escape, haha.

I’ve been informed by a friend on Facebook that it was minus 7 in Canberra last night! Now that is getting cold! I did wake up during the night and think it was a bit cool which is unusual because I am usually too hot and have to throw doonas and blankets off me. Once our ducted gas kicked in early this morning I soon became as snug as a bug in a rug but it is early for those types of temperatures. Is it going to be a long cold winter? I don’t know. The weather bureau girl on the news the other night said they were expecting a winter of above average temperatures but if it goes on like this it is going to uncomfortable for the next couple of months. It has matured into a nice day. Bit of sun and warmth. One upside to a freezing night.

I remembered during the week why I stopped reading “Letters to the Editor” in the papers and the feedback sections of the online editions. The aftermath of the Osama bin Laden raid was all over the news and the blow by blow accounts were being dissected and new revelations were being divulged almost by the minute. Of course as is the nature of these things it was only small snapshots of what actually happened on the raid that were initially getting through to the public domain and the White House was forced to backtrack a couple of times on things that it had said. I was silly enough to click onto the feedback of the Herald Sun in regards to the White House changing it’s story and I was instantly sorry that I did. The conspiracy theorists were out in force. It was all a lie! The world was waking up to the US! Produce photos or else! And the majority of people writing in were of the same ilk. Amazing. There were a few voices of reason in the wilderness but there sure are a lot of people out there with some funny ideas. Perhaps people could say the same about me but some of this stuff is outlandish.
I guess the thing that gets me the most is why would the US lie about such a thing? Could you imagine the international humiliation they would suffer when bin Laden suddenly pops up on TV somewhere proclaiming the US “imperialist pig dogs” as liars? Obama isn’t that stupid. They just wouldn’t do it.
In the course of the raid the soldiers had collected video of bin Laden rehearsing his speeches and watching himself on TV. Of course some of the great minds in the feedback column felt that this was a lookalike and one lady even suggested it would have to be his brother! Another was certain that the man in the video didn’t even look like bin Laden when anyone with a sense of reason could easily see that it was him.
As for the White House backtracking on earlier statements I would imagine that they were only getting snapshots of what had happened in bin Laden’s compound and were releasing press statements announcing  what they knew. I would think that as the raiders were debriefed and were able to give a clear account of what happened a better idea of the chain of events that occurred would become known and the White House would be able to confirm what actually happened. No lies. No conspiracy. Just confirmation of the facts.
In anycase it ensured that I will continue to stay away from the feedback sections in the future. It does make me wonder if it is too easy to use the internet!? Haha. Seeya next time.
