One of those days today, sitting here feeling a little blue. Nothing to worry about, just don’t feel like doing much at all even though there is plenty I could or should do.
The long weekend passed by in a blur. It’s funny to look forward to something like a long weekend only to find that it is gone in a blink of an eye and it’s back to the grind at work before you know it.
Work actually hasn’t been too bad for the last little bit. Nothing exciting has been happening but in a way that’s a good thing. The great saga of the Parcel Centre seems to be sorting itself out. Our new regional manager seems to have bit more going for him than the last one and seems to evaluate the information put before him and sum it up before making decisions. He also seems to take onboard advice from people who have some idea what they are talking about in the lower rungs of his jurisdiction so overall he seems to just be starting to turn the ship towards more positive territory. We will wait and see. Australia Post hierarchy always seem to find a way to disappoint.
Had a nice walk on Saturday up over the Urambi Hills which directly overlook Kambah. It really is nice up there and is my old stomping ground as I use to walk up there regularly when I lived in Kambah but I can only remember going up there once or twice since being in Wanniassa. The hills are on the other side of Kambah from Mt Taylor which is of course a tougher walk but it seems that every man and his dog walk up there nowadays so it was nice to find only another two people transversing the Urambi hills.
I always found a bit of solitude there and also on Mt Neighbour which is closer to Weston Creek. They are not huge but provide terrific panoramas of Tuggeranong and are nice places to sit and ponder about the world for a little while. The Tuggeranong Valley and it’s surrounds are actually quite beautiful and I don’t think those who live in these parts really appreciate that until they take a stroll up the surrounding hills.
The view from Wanniassa Hills out past Weston to Belconnen is also spectacular for anyone planning to tramp in these parts.
To finish the weekend I had another quintessential canberra experience, dinner at the Alto Restaurant in the Telstra Tower, Canberra’s most visible landmark. Now apart from the fact that they charge like wounded bulls, it is a very pleasant dining experience and the fact the restaurant revolves just makes it a little different.
I have been there on a couple of occasions before but not for many years and it is nice to know it is still going well with good food and professional staff. Almost a must do for any visitor to Canberra.
I’ve been out and about this morning, dropping Linda’s car off at Tuggeranong Hyperdome for a long awaited servicing and walked home. Just enjoying my time here, mucking around on the computer until the time comes to start doing something a little more constructive with the day.
It’s nice to have the few hours in the morning to relax. There is no one here but me and I like it. It’s not always like this as most people would know other things get in the way and the day can be a rush but today is nice and I’m enjoying it. So with that I will sign off for today and continue savouring the morning.
