It’s been a bit more of an eventful morning than usual. I would love to sleep in on a day like today but unfortunately in current circumstances it is not to be.
Driving Monique to school in the morning is a nightmare. I was lucky this morning that it wasn’t raining, that has only just started but it was very busy and the “idiot quota” on the road was very high. Some days the traffic is really busy and other days we get through without too many problems. We leave at the same time every day. I have often wondered the circumstances behind the ebb and flow in the traffic on particular days. Maybe the traffic is heavier on days like today because people who might usually ride, walk or stand at bus stops decide to take their cars instead? Something for the everyday commuter to ponder when he has nothing more important to think about!
I had only just walked in the door when I get a phone call from Megan. We had dropped her off at school here in Wanniassa before heading over to Queanbeyan so she could play Futsal. She was hit in the head with the ball and her glasses broke and she was very upset so it was down to the High School I went to pick her up, skillfully avoiding all the feral kids who inhabit the place. She was at school at 8am and home by 9am so that isn’t a bad day!
I’m not sure about the intelligence of playing any sort of football when you have to wear glasses but she really likes playing so what can you do? There is an element of danger in every sport, no matter how safe it supposedly is. Surely there must be Aussie Rules players and League and Union players who have bad eyesight? I wonder how they get on? Will have to look into it.
In any case she is now happily ensconced on the couch with the DVD player in full swing getting ready for a long day of movie watching. Good idea on a day like today.
Busy day at work yesterday as Mondays always seem to be in the Small Parcel area where I work. Didn’t help my mood later in the day when one of the fill in supervisors on the later shifts tried to get everybody to do a bit more work by yelling at us! We just laughed at him. Most of the afternoon shift have been working at the mail centre for many years now and are pretty tight in a clinch so we don’t take too kindly to Johnny Come Lately’s who get their ambition and ability mixed up trying that game on us!
Admittedly we were being a bit slack but it was late in a busy day and all the hard work was done. The acting supervisor concerned is heading for a fall.
I really have had enough of these sorts of fellows at the mail centre and it is topped off by the most incompetent manager I’ve ever had the misfortune to deal with trying to push the rotating shift staff onto fixed shifts. That’s a story for another day but it is a saga that will no doubt carry on for some time yet.
For now I will stay inside and try to make something of the morning before fronting up for another round at the Canberra Mail Centre. Stay tuned!
