Day of the Living Dead-CMC

Anyone who read my blog yesterday would know that I came down with a moderately serious cold over the weekend that made me fairly uncomfortable for a couple of days. Feeling a lot better today although the cold seems to have become a bit of a chest cough. Runny nose has dried up. I think the thing that really saved me was that I didn’t get a headache or dizziness so I was able to operate quite normally.
I ebbed and flowed with how I felt through the day yesterday but got through without feeling really bad at any stage.
When I left work on Friday evening there were one or two people who commented that they weren’t feeling great and seemed to be getting a bit of a cold but yesterday it seemed that the whole mail centre had gone down! Everywhere you looked or listened someone was coughing or blowing their nose or telling horror stories about how they had suffered over the weekend. My cold felt quite mild by comparison. It was like a scene from “The Omega Man” with lots of Zombies walking about trying to infect and destroy the rest of us.
“Day of the Living Dead” at CMC. To make matters worse we had a safety meeting about AP’s new “Zero Tolerance” workplace policy in regards to workplace accidents and 26 of us were crammed into the meeting room which is stuffy at the best of times. I had an elderly Vietnamese man sitting next to me who seemed intent on sharing his flem with me and there was another one a few seats over who seemed intent on doing the same. How nice of them!
Neal our supervisor who has become progressively more miserable over the last 18 months had his grief compounded by the dreaded lurgy making him an even sadder figure than he usually is. Several times he had to leave the meeting to answer a phone call from a member of staff who had been hit with the bug and had decided not to come in. 14 sickies all up and we had another one through the day who decided he couldn’t continue and went home.
So as I stated yesterday it’s time to get my hygiene routine in order to give me the best possible chance of avoiding a cold recurring or being reinfected by one of the zombies. In a place like CMC one can never be too careful as germs are everywhere and hygiene doesn’t seem to be a major concern for many.
 Wish me luck!
