I had the car to Euro services in Phillip a couple of times and to say that they were next to useless to me is an understatement. The last time I went there I was walking home when they rang me claiming to have found the problem. That was 20 minutes after I had left. I was walking home over Farrer Ridge and hadn’t even got out of the suburbs when they called. Obviously they hadn’t done any sort of check on it at all and after I picked it up it was running just as badly as before. Methinks they may not have wanted to fix it under warranty as it runs out in October.
So anyway, I took it to the mechanic who had looked after my cars for a few years before I got the Jumbuck and had always been good value. I knew he wouldn’t run me around and although I knew I would have to pay for it I preferred that and getting it fixed properly rather than getting dudded again.
So I am happy with that.
I bought the car about three years ago when petrol prices went through the roof for a while. I had a Falcon that had a fuel problem that kept reoccurring and it was just costing me too much to keep running so I thought a little ute like the Jumbuck would be a good little car to run to and from work and to take stuff to the tip when I needed to. I can’t back a trailer to save myself so the little ute has come in handy.
So it has cost me a little bit of money now but I will see how it runs over the next 10 000 km. Anymore trouble and I might have to look for something else although I must say I have missed it. We’ll see.
The big news for us at the mail centre yesterday was our manager announcing that he has resigned and will leave in three months. It doesn’t really surprise me as he seems to be a little out of his depth as a mail centre manager being given a free run from a technician to Technical Manager to Mail Centre Manager without having any experience or having to prove that he knew what he was doing. It has been a hectic three years for us with big changes and indifferent managers who don’t inspire confidence so we are all hoping that the next fellow we get has a bit of nous.
The big surprise is that our outgoing boss has taken a job as manager of the abattoir at Young which is reopening. He lives in Boorowa so it is an easy 40km drive for him but I’m not sure what experience if any he has in the beef industry. If you hear of the Young Abattoir going bad you will know who to blame!
I don’t imagine it would be an easy job as the owner of the abattoir there is notorious for his apathetic attitude to his workers. Good luck I say! And goodbye, you won’t be missed.
After a rest day at the Tour de France it is back to business for the riders and another late night for me tonight. I missed not having it on last night but I don’t think Linda missed having it on in the bedroom. Hopefully it will be a fast stage and I will be able to turn it off before 1.30am!
It is now or never for Cadel Evans our great Aussie champ this week. He is now 34 and I imagine it will be his last chance to claim the big prize. He would be the oldest winner for 60 or so years if he was to knock it off so he is up against it but his form is the best I have ever seen so we can only hope. I think he will definitely finish in the top four in Paris but where in that top four I can’t say.
So that is it for now. A nice day here today, cold but with some lovely sunshine so I may have to make an effort to do some work out the back before slogging away another evening at CMC.
Till next time.
