“Now is the winter of our discontent”! Thanks Mr Shakespeare but it is starting to turn out that way for me.
I’ve come down with a bit of a chest bug overnight and now a headache is starting to creep up on me. Might be wise to spend the afternoon in bed. This is the second time in about three weeks I’ve gone down with a cold so Canberra’s coldest winter in 30 years isn’t doing me a lot of good!
Since my last little attack of flu I’ve been pedantic about washing my hands incessantly and making sure I wear warm clothes when I go out but to no avail obviously. Perhaps sitting up till 2am every morning watching that bike race in France is lowering my immune system and knocking me down. There is a transition stage tonight and a rest day tomorrow night so I might take a breather tonight and of course will be able to get to bed early Monday. Hopefully I’ll be fresh for the last week which is mainly in the Alps.
Last night I went out playing Lazer Tag in Belconnen and apart from feeling a little tired beforehand which I put down to consecutive late nights I wasn’t feeling too bad. Went out for dinner at a Thai restaurant afterwards and started to go downhill after that. Got really bad with asthma in the chest and full blown chest cold today. When I went down with the flu a couple of weeks back it was after going to an Indian restaurant and the meal I had last night was spicy too! Maybe that’s telling me to stick with Aussie meat and potatoes!
Managed to stay up and watch the mountain top finish in the Tour last night. Bit of a surprise that the French leader managed to hang on to the big guns and I think he is starting to be a bit of a threat.
Cadel looked very strong following the wheels and the attacks of Andy Schleck so we will see how he goes in the last week. I don’t think he has given everything yet but he should run a drum in Paris from here given how well he is riding.
So nothing really for me to do today except hunker down and take it easy! I think I can manage that!
