Ah, Monday again. Those two days, Saturday and Sunday sure go by quickly don’t they?
I had quite a relaxing weekend. Lunch in Manuka on Saturday with Linda, Monique, Rona and her Dad Robert. It was nice although the open steak sandwich I ordered came with the smallest piece of steak I have ever seen!
Not too many people around either which was good. It was just after the lunch rush hour, around 2pm so things had slowed down a bit although there were still plenty of people at Caph’s, which is one of those places to see and be seen when you are having lunch in Manuka on the weekend. We were at Charmers which was much quieter and pleasant.
I think the most entertaining thing about sitting in a sidewalk cafe in Manuka is watching people trying to reverse park! Now I shouldn’t laugh or denigrate anyone as I avoid reverse parking like the plague so as not to embarrass myself but others don’t seem to have such qualms so I reckon they are open to ridicule.
There was one fellow in particular who seemed intent on endangering the lives of people eating at a cafe further up the road with his poor reverse parking skills. He was in a four wheel drive and ended up on an angle in the car parking space with his back rear wheel well mounted on the kerb. The two young asian diners sitting in the cafe adjacent to where this man was trying to park didn’t wait around to see if he was going to make a success of his parking efforts. I imagine they were more in fear for their lives than anything and soon sensibly vacated the table where they had been eating.
As I said he was soon ensconced on an angle with back wheel on kerb but the sniggers and outright laughter from surrounding cafe patrons didn’t seem to phase him in the least and he happily sat in the car taking in the scenery whilst his seemingly endless number of kids alighted from the car with their mother to do some business in the surrounding precincts.
After a little while they all returned and we were treated to another spectacle as he tried to get out of the tight spot he had found himself in as of course there were cars fore and aft of him. Eventually he extricated himself without scraping any paint off his or anyone else’s car but he did make it fairly difficult for himself and entertaining for many others.
Out for dinner in Queanbeyan at the home of Linda’s friends, Ian and Diana, who are a very easy couple to be in the company of and it was home by 11pm and into bed thus completing a very social Saturday.
Sunday began with a visit to my parents whilst Linda took Monique to Soccer in Belconnen. Picked some lemons from my tree out the back, watched “The American” on DVD with Linda when she got home, shopped for fruit and veges at Tuggeranong and did my once a month preparation of dinner and got to bed reasonably early for me.
So, all in all a nice weekend. Not very constructive but relaxing and social. Too short by far but I can’t help that.
So now it’s Monday morning and the dread of having to go back to the monotony of Australia Post for the week is starting to build. Not much I can do but make the most of it. Have some fun and a few laughs at the expense of management with my friends. If you tried to act mature and sensibly at AP you would die of boredom very quickly! We don’t try to act our age. A little bit of fun makes the day go quickly.
So that is the run down of my weekend. Another nice one. A pleasure to be alive. Till next time.
