As I get older I am definitely getting lazier! I should be out doing something proactive on a morning like this but I really just prefer to sit here and drink coffee and relax. There is plenty I could or should be doing but I get it into my head that I can do it later and of course time runs away and it never gets done.
It’s nice being here playing on my computer, hunkered down, away from the rest of the world with all it’s complexities.
I am dreading going to work. It’s never great at the best of times but our regular supervisor is off for the week and a fellow from night shift who we are not very fond of has been put up as a replacement. He can be a nice enough person but has no experience on our shift and dealing with someone like that can be tiresome and a bit of a nightmare when they don’t know what they are doing. I hope he let’s the staff to get on with it and basically just leaves things alone unless he is needed.
I have been lucky enough to have had a number of consecutive weekends that have been stress free and I guess that makes the thought of going into work again more unbearable. The weekends go by so quickly that you are back at work on Monday before you know it and the long count until 9.46pm on Friday has begun again! What a way to live your working life. It seems that I am continually watching the clock.
I leave home at 1.30pm. Start at 2.00pm. Count down until the first break at 4.00pm. Count down again to 5.55pm for our long break. Hook into our toughest two hours of the day from 6.30pm till we finally get to have another rest at 8.30pm. Then the longest hour of the day. The grind to the finish knowing that no matter how hard we work there will be no early release because AP has got no idea how to get the best out of it’s staff. Such is life. Still, being able to have these relaxing mornings is a by product of the hours I work and I can’t complain about that.
The weekend was spent ferrying teenage girls to various soccer matches in far flung parts of Canberra. Dickson on Saturday and Kaleen yesterday. Almost got myself lost on the way to Kaleen playing fields yesterday but found the place at the last minute saving me from embarrassment. I had played cricket at these ovals many years ago so had a rough idea of where I was going just ended up taking the long road getting there. Drove back to my parents place in Kambah before returning to Kaleen to pick up Monique after her side’s fighting 3-1 loss. The Jumbuck clocked up 100km for the day! It’s easy to forget how spread out Canberra is when you confine yourself almost exclusively to the southern suburbs.
Had an interesting Saturday night at the Queanbeyan Roos Club watching a Queen tribute band. I was a bit sceptical about going as Freddie Mercury had one of Rock Music’s greatest voices and tribute artists can be a bit lame but it turned out to be a reasonable night and something a bit different.
There were about a hundred people in the small auditorium, mainly people my age and above as you would expect for a Queen tribute show but the crowd certainly got into the spirit of things. The lead singer tried his best through a range of costume changes representing the best of Freddie Mercury’s interesting stage attire and sang okay. It is handy to remind yourself at such performances that you are not actually going to be watching the band, just a tribute to it lest you be disappointed at the performance.
So that was it for me on the weekend. Now the countdown to work is hotting up. Heading on towards 10.30am. Time to get cracking. Bye.
