Well, here we go again. The start of another working week. There is never very much to look forward to at Australia Post but we at least have our regular supervisor back this week so things should return to normal and the workfloor run in it’s usual competent manner.
Friday night was a near disaster. I have never seen such a lack of leadership and knowledge from a supervisor in my 24 years at AP. The fool will probably get promoted! The worst part was that he sat in the office for two hours whilst the place fell to pieces around him. No wonder Australia Post is going so badly when they put fellows like this into supervisory positions. It was only the initiative of the mail officers that saved the day and it will never be known or acknowledged by management.
Anyway, as I said things should be a lot more serene today. Not looking forward to going but looking forward to things being a bit calmer.
I finally pruned my lemon tree yesterday. Well perhaps “pruned” is not the right word for it. It was only when I stepped back and had a look at it that I realised how much of it I had taken off! I at least got the last of the lemons off it. Looking at it now out of my bedroom window I am thinking it reminds me of a big woolly dog that has been taken to with a pair of shears. It almost looks like it is shivering in the cold early morning. It is a bit of a rough cut and doesn’t look that great but I am sure if it comes back as I hope it will then it will soon be bushy and full of lemons again.
Of course the other thing is that my back yard is now full of cut off tree branches and limbs that will need to be hauled away and there is certainly more than one trip to the green waste facility in it. I know what I will be doing for the rest of the morning!
The “Convoy of No Confidence” rumbled through the city this morning protesting against everything from the Carbon Tax to Senator Penny Wong’s lesbian partner having a baby! I understand that it has been a bit of fizzer and caused almost no delays to traffic. Nowhere near as many trucks have arrived as was predicted and that may have something to do with the peak trucking body failing to support it. As they correctly stated in the paper this morning the convoy’s demand that both houses of parliament be dissolved and a new election be called is unconstitutional. The Prime Minister couldn’t do that even if she wanted to.
As the trucking body also stated, there are many things that concern truck drivers about current government policy but gay marriage isn’t one of them! It seems that all sorts of whacky types are congregating in Canberra nowadays to protest about anything that takes their fancy.
It also looks like the endgame has arrived for Colonel Gaddafi in Libya with rebels advancing into the capital Tripoli. Reports are saying that Gaddafi’s personal bodyguards have laid down their arms and Gaddafi is appealing to NATO to sponsor a ceasefire. It looks like the lights are about to go out for one of the enduring figures of the Arab world. Not that I have any sympathy for him. Hopefully Libya won’t descend into kaos with different factions fighting for control. Unfortunately these Arab countries are racked by tribal differences and the whole place could fall apart and turn into another Afghanistan. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that!
 Till next time.
