I really shouldn’t be sitting here banging out word after word of useless information about my life or my uniformed opinion on things that happen as I have plenty to do today before going to work.
I got really motivated for some reason yesterday and got into the backyard and did a bit of work. I cut back a tree that has been annoying me for some time and now I have a huge amount of branch and foliage to take away and I don’t really feel like doing so! I’ll have to cut the branches up a bit more to fit them in the ute.
I’ve got a headache too. Been feeling a bit lacklustre for a few days and I think it is just a very slight cold coming on. Just enough to take the top off my good health.
I went walking Saturday and Sunday and sitting around in sweaty clothes afterwards doesn’t do you any good and maybe I’ve picked up a slight chill from that. I should know better after years of riding pushbikes. Get into the shower straight away. Then again it is the time of year for allergies and it could just be a bit of pollen or such in the air that is stirring up my head a bit.
Anyway it was a nice surprise to flick the TV on this morning and see Samantha Stosur win the US Open Tennis Title. It wasn’t just any old win either. She beat Serena Williams who put on one of the most unsportsmanlike performances you would wish to see and of course the crowd was biased as you would expect and with it being September 11 the Americans were very patriotic and vocal so Sam was up against it but came through with flying colours.
She isn’t as young as I thought she was. 27, so she has been around a bit. Of course some athletes just mature later. She was a good junior but seems to have lost her way a bit until last year when she made the French Open Final. Been up and down this year but it is a fair reward for her. First Aussie woman to win a Grand Slam Title since the “The Gong” won Wimbledon in 1980. First Aussie woman to win the US Open since Margaret Court in 1973. So it has been a long time between drinks for our girls.
Just when I thought Aussie sport was on a downer our athletes have come back with a vengeance. The Netball girls won, Cadel won, Sally Pearson won, the rowers took home a swag of medals at the world titles, cricketers showing signs of life again Sri Lanka. It’s been a golden year. I’m not much of a Rugby Union follower but the Wallabies were impressive in their first match of the World Cup so here’s hoping for more success. Nothing like a bit of jingoism is there?!
So I better get a move on and do what I have to do. It’s a magnificent day here in Canberra so perhaps going outside and doing a bit isn’t as bad as it sounds from my little hideaway in my bedroom. Will test the conditions and go from there. Bye for now.
