More Ruminations on Life!

You don’t have to travel too far on life’s journey before running into an idiot or two…or three…or four!
It seems to me that upwards of 40% of society are morons and that maybe being generous!
Now I have from time to time during the course of my life been accused of being too cynical and there may be some truth to that and maybe I am being too cynical now but it seems that as soon as you walk out your front door there is someone being a fool, endangering himself or you, being rude, arrogant, ignorant, stupid or a combination of all of them. Whether you be travelling by car, bike, foot, whether you are at work or a shopping centre or somewhere just minding your own business one can’t seem to get away from the startling realisation that our society survives very well despite the overwhelming numbers of fools we have to live with!
Sometimes it doesn’t worry me at all and I just get about my own business and leave others to theirs but occasionally it really gets to me.
Of course there is a catalyst for my thought process and I will relay it to you directly.
Opposite my mother and father’s home is a government house in which the local government places people who need emergency housing. I’m sure some can appreciate the types who have been tennants there.
Presently there is a girl aged in her early twenties in residence, single, with a couple of kids who never seem to go to school.
She hasn’t been as bad as some who have lived in the street but she doesn’t work and obviously gets by on the goodwill of the tax paying public.
But you should see the line up of idiots who regularly congregate there!
What has set me off has been the antics of a pair who have been hanging around out the front of this house for two days. That’s right, hanging around out the front, not inside.
They are obviously friends of the girl in question and there is another woman hanging about inside who comes out and smokes regularly and talks to these two chaps who don’t seem to want to do anything but sit in their car.
I was over at Mum and Dad’s yesterday for lunch and these two fellows were sitting in the car, a maroon Holden Commodore, smoking, occasionally getting out to play with the kids or to chase the magpies gathering out the front looking for a feed.
Every now and then the visiting woman would come out and have a smoke, indulge in some small talk and then go back inside.
Eventually, presumably because it is boring sitting in a car all day, they began driving backwards and fowards a few metres across the lawn and then decided to do laps of the small cul de sac that my parents live in. Okay. Whatever floats your boat.
The intriguing thing is that I was back over there today and here are these two fellows still sitting in their car, smoking, ocasionally getting out to play with the kids when they ventured outside but generally keeping vigil in the two front seats. An exciting life.
I can’t come to any other conclusion except that they are fools! How I would love to have control over such recalcitrants and be able to whisk them off to a building site somewhere ensuring they spend the day on a pick and shovel rather than bludging on society and acting like idiots.
I guess it wouldn’t have worried me so much except that driving to work yesterday I again encountered many of the moronic side of society on the roads and then again had to put up with the masterminds at Australia Post for 8 hours. It was just getting me down.
Alas there is nothing I can do but grin and bear it and go about my own day as it happens trying to keep up with those who actually give a damn and try to forget about those who don’t. Because without them, society really would be in trouble.
And I will take a trip over to Kambah tomorrow to see if my two friends are still at their post! It might give me a laugh.
