The year is really starting to slip by.We will be starting to get a good look at the Christmas holidays soon which is always a fairly unpleasant time at Australia Post as volumes increase although the last few years haven’t been that bad as people seem to be reverting to electronic greetings for Christmas and there is not nearly as much mail to sort over the festive season as there use to be.
Of course the one saving grace of the period is that from December 31 I go on annual leave and don’t return until early February. In fact I am considering taking a bit of long service leave on top of that and making it a big break. We shall see.
Our new manager addressed the staff yesterday. He is a Vietnamese man who has been with Australia Post for 36 years! He knows the ropes I think but started by saying that he didn’t really want to be here but the restructuring of AP at management level meant that there was no place else for him to go. Good start.
He has come through the ranks from the lowest levels so he will know something more than the last two managers we have had who have been hand picked and had more in common with the inhabitants of the simeon enclosure at the local zoo than with the average mail officer and knew as much about mail processing as the average chimp too!
So we will see. I think he will be a bit more like the old managers that we are use to. Capable of being a bit of a dictator but at least having a bit of an idea what is going on.
It’s been a bit of a mess at work over the last three years and hopefully the end of this year and 2012 will see an of an improvement.
Other than that it has been a quiet week. It was a magnificent day yesterday and I went for a walk up into the Fadden Hills and had a good workout. It is always good for the soul to get up onto the high points around Wanniassa as the views into the Tuggeranong Valley are a bit special and a reminder that it is very a nice place to live. The recent rainfall has caused the countryside from here into the Brindabella Ranges and north west into the Belconnen area to green right up and it is very picturesque.
Today is not so nice with cloud cover and a bit of a dull atmosphere which compliments my mood nicely. Just got to keep thinking that it is not that long until I am on leave. Give myself something to aim for.
So that is about all for today. A cupboard shelf broke and fell yesterday just before I went to work so that needs attending to and Megan conned me into hanging her washing on the line so I will get onto that as well.
Then another 8 hours to push myself through at work. Nearly the end of the week. I will keep plugging away.
