Silence and solitude descends on the house yet again. Linda and Megan are at Cosco and I don’t expect them to be back for some time and Monique is working hard at KFC.
It’s already past midday and I’m not really sure where the morning went!
I slept in a little, was up just past nine and the day seemed to get away from me. I have a list of things to do as long as my arm so there is no chance that I will be getting bored for the rest of the day.
It’s warm and sunny. In fact it warmed up very quickly and I may just break the shorts out soon as I have a bit to do outside.
It’s the time of year for allergies and my head feels like it is in the grip of a giant vice and my nose is running and despite being fit and healthy I feel like I need to go back to bed.
No matter. I will battle on gamely.
It’s another big weekend of sport. The Caulfield Cup will be run today and the first of the Semi-Finals of the Rugby World Cup, Wales versus France will be held this afternoon and it’s the big one tomorrow, Australia versus New Zealand. I think there is also a New Zealand versus Australia Rugby League Test on. The cricket season has started and of course for those like me who have their life invested in the world of professional cycle sport, the Herald SunTour is on with a stage finish on Arthurs Seat on the Mornington Peninsula which should be quite spectacular.
It’s live on TV this afternoon so no one should be in any doubt what I will be doing between 3pm and 5pm today!
The working week has been a normal one. Just battling the boredom and monotony, trying to plug along until the final bell every day, looking at the clock every half an hour so, the endless countdown of life continuing unabated until the main objective of working life, reaching the weekend, is finally achieved.
The usual tedium was interrupted by our new manager who looks to be very keen to snap us out of our torpor by seemingly being everywhere at once. Everytime we looked around there he was, living up to his promise that he would be available to talk to anyone, anytime and desperately trying to impress on us his ability to remember names even though he constantly mixed people up.
I get the impression he is keen to make an impact and behind the friendly facade is a keen eye looking to make improvements to a workfloor that has gotten quite slovenly.
He was telling me when he was a manager at South West Letters Facility in Sydney there were a thousand people employed there and it would take him a week to get around to everyone at Christmas and wish them the best for the festive season.
With only 138 staff at CMC he shouldn’t have to spend so much time saying G’Day! As far as his managerial career goes, he seems to have gone from commanding a battleship to being in charge of a torpedo boat!
He has called a meeting of supervisors and senior mail officers and it will be held in a couple of weeks and I daresay we will get an idea then of changes he wants to make and how hard he wants the supervisors to come down on non-performers. It will be interesting.
So, as time is now starting to slip rapidly into the early afternoon I will sign off and begin my chores. Fun!
