Not much to write about but I thought I would make a quick entry just to keep things on this blog up to date.
Work has been busy as one might expect at this time of year. I am not sure of the figures but it does seem that we are getting quite a bit of small letter product in the evenings and the letter cancelling machine has still been going when my shift leaves at 9.46pm.
There have been some flat spots but to the naked eye it looks as though it is a solid Christmas for Australia Post.
For most of the last two weeks I have been working in the small parcel area and it has been as busy there as I can remember it being at Christmas. The last two nights in particular have been non-stop and asking for someone to help is like talking to a wall. You get the same response at least. Silence!
I said to my friend Dave, who also works in the small parcel area regularly, that our supervisor is lucky that we take a bit of interest and pride in the section as we are the only two people who really like doing it and try to get it finished in a reasonable time frame.
No one else seems to care that much and we have to get it done by a certain time as the night sorters who sort the mail for the posties occasionally come in early at 9.30pm and they utilise the space we have during the day so we have to be cleaned up and out by then, lest there be an uncomfortable situation.
I daresay I will be back in the small parcels today as Dave seems less interested in doing it nowadays as it is becoming a real nightmare to finish it on time and as I said, no help is forthcoming.
I don’t mind doing it, even on busy days like we have had but I am becoming more irritable as the streaming of product to the section is not good and I usually have to cull out large letters, large parcels and small letters which have been sent to me through laziness or carelessness. Of course when the volumes are up these problems amplify. I am counting the days until Christmas!
The manager is still driving everyone crazy through his overzealous, “hands on” approach. I appreciate it that he feels the need to be seen but it has gone overboard to the point of interference. He really needs to find a good book and read it in his office as his regular appearances and desire to tell the supervisors what to do is starting to grate on everyone.
There is a difference between a “strategic” plan and a “tactical” plan. He should be responsible for strategy and leave the tactics to his supervisors. They aren’t perfect but they get the job done.
If he wants to run the floor he should come down and do it or leave everyone alone to do their thing. It’s not pretty at times but we get the mail out on time most of the time.
So that is about it from me for today. Not a particularly entertaining or insightful post, merely trying to keep things up to date in the run up to Christmas after which I may have a few more interesting stories to tell.
Hope everyone has a great day.
