It’s Boxing Day and Christmas has come and gone for another year, passed in a flash and we are on the road to 2012.
It’s my 100th post on my blog and the end of the year is an appropriate time to reach that sort of milestone.
The week between Christmas and New Year always feels a bit funny. Everything is winding down and although dates are really just numbers, many people feel a sense of renewal at the start of a new year and of course make all sorts of promises to themselves and others about new year resolutions which most I’m sure never keep.
I have today and tomorrow off but have to return to work for two days later in the week which is a terrible drag but there won’t be too much work to do and hopefully not much pressure to get it done.
I have often thought that Australia Post would be better off shutting right down for the ten days between Christmas and New Year but I daresay there are mitigating factors which stop them considering it and God forbid if they had to pay people if they are not at work or on authorised leave!
Christmas day here saw Linda and I up early cleaning up the kitchen in preparation for our expected breakfast guests.
A friend of Linda’s and my father were here and Linda’s eldest daughter and her boyfriend came around later in the morning.
After that it was some boardgames which I was dragged into against my will before rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon left me at a loose end and I was forced to watch the movie “Sliding Doors” before an afternoon kip and a light dinner of toast due to the excess amount of food and chocolate I had eaten through the day which left me in quite a bloated state.
So now it is back to work.
The backyard is doing a good impression of an Amazonian jungle due to the amount of rain we have had and there is plenty of mowing, weeding and lopping to be done this afternoon if the rain holds off.
It has been a wet summer, and as I will be away for a couple of weeks in January I better prepare it for my absence as the rain is forecast to continue to fall. Rain is a blessing of course but I think most people would be happy for a sustained break from precipitation and for a bit of summer weather to prevail, at least for a little bit.
As I sit here it appears to be getting cloudy and overcast again and as more rain is due in the week to come I better make the most of the temporary dry conditions and get the mower out before the wet stuff hits us again.
Until next time.
