Happy New Year!
I have managed to find myself some spare time and a computer that is in reach so what better thing is there to do than blog!
The dearth of quality viewing on New Zealand TV has given me the urge to write!
We arrived safely in New Zealand after an uneventful trip.
Apart from an embarrasing moment at a south Sydney service station when we wern’t able to figure out how to open the fuel tank on a Holden Cruze, everything ran smoothly.
The flight across the Tasman was as smooth as the rear end of a Saigon prostitute and we arrived in Auckland dead on time.
The weather here has apparently been dreadful with heavy rain everyday for weeks and flooding in the The Bay of Plenty and on the Coramandel Peninsula. However, despite cloudy conditions that greeted us on leaving the airport, our first day here remained dry.
The humidity is higher here than it has been at home so I have been sweating profusely although it is cooler here today than yesterday.
It was a fairly calm introduction to 2012 in Glenfield, the north shore suburb where I am staying. There was some New Year’s Eve revellry with fireworks being launched and the like but nothing much that would annoy a reasonable person.
I did see the Kiwi New Year in as I was watching the movie “Apollo 13” in bed but flaked soon after and slept well, the tiredness of a long day of travel ensuring me a fitful slumber.
I arose late yesterday and a walk through the large rainforest reserve in Glenfield with Linda and Megan was a pleasant way to start our holiday.
It was an otherwise quiet day and rain closed in to make the atmosphere dull and gloomy.
Today we have been tidying up around the house, cleaning out cupboards of food that is past it’s used by date and planning activities to come in the day’s ahead.
I have already eaten too much chocolate and fast food so a brisk walk this evening should keep me on an even keel.
Until next time.
