Another Monday morning and it has dawned bright and clear and I’m sure most of us are back into the routine that punctuates our working week.
I’ve been on the phone to the tax office trying to sort out my long running dispute with them over a measly $100 or so!
I finally got onto someone sensible who has put me on the right track but I do think the information requested of me is superfluous and I’m not sure why I have to do their job for them. So be it. Who can be bothered seriously questioning the ways and means of such an agency? Especially over such a petty matter.
I’m not sure that the people who run these sprawling bureaucracies understand that their petty little enquiries into your life can be stressful although I doubt they care.
I requested that they put down what they want from me in a letter but that is apparently too difficult for the tax office in this day and age and I needed to ring. As I said, I at least got someone on the other end who was polite and helpful.
So that has taken up a little part of my morning and I feel the next part should be taken up by excercise. Whether it be cycling or walking I will decide when I get off the computer.
My work week ended on a sour note on Friday night with me flying off the handle after being chipped by one of our MPC1’s over a ridiculously petty incident. It’s something I really should have let go through to the keeper but the silliness of it and the fact that the fellow in question makes a habit of trying to flaunt his new found authority saw me lose control.
I won’t go into detail but his little aside to me which he would have been better off keeping to himself did nothing to improve my work performance and everything to blow my temper! Not one of my finest efforts at the mail centre but the fellow concerned is a try hard who doesn’t have a clue and I don’t feel particularly sorry for insulting him. But I will try to temper my behaviour in future.
I did however have quite an enjoyable weekend being a little more sociable than I usually am and being out and about quite a bit. It dulled the pain of returning to work today.
Of course the big news yesterday which is still reverberating around the globe this morning is the death of Whitney Houston.
It seems that those to whom the gods give the greatest gifts often are the ones who are least capable of handling them.
Presley, Jackson, Whitney and a slew of lesser stars have all shuffled off the mortal coil through drug abuse whether it be prescription or otherwise and it is sad that the joy that they bring to millions can’t bring them happiness too.
I grew up listening to Whitney Houston and her flawless voice and when an icon and superstar like her dies it is certainly a sad occasion as she has been a presence in all our lives for so long. A great talent gone too soon.
It would be nice to think that her tragic death could teach others of the perils of celebrity but of course it won’t.
Those who fly too close to the sun often get burnt. I hope she finds the peace now that she couldn’t find in life. Rest in peace Whitney and thankyou.
