It’s a miserable end to a miserable summer.
Rain has been drenching south-eastern Australia and Canberra is expected to get very heavy falls today. At the moment it is dank and murky but not actually raining although it has been very recently.
Yarrawonga, down on the Murray River, not very far from where I was born in Wangaratta, had it’s highest recorded rainfall in history two days ago and I guess this part of the country is now experiencing what Queenslanders have been getting for well over 12 months.
My wellbeing is also reflected in the weather. Megan has been ill for the last few days and of course the rest of us have now come down with the first signs of the flu.
I’m not that bad. Being a little off colour is bearable as long as I don’t get smacked with a headache which I have thankfully avoided so far.
A runny nose and a “fuzzy” throat are the extent of my travails today and I will drug myself up in order to deal with the rest of my day. I’m not bad enough to consider skipping work. Once I get moving around doing what is required at AP I am hoping to be okay.
It’s seems strange after writing my last blog entry about how hot it was at the Canberra show that I am now writing about how foul the weather is.
The last two years has really showed the zany side of the weather patterns. After more than ten years of drought and not having to mow the lawn very often, we have certainly had our share of the wet stuff recently.
Perhaps it is just natural phenomena causing this sort of weather or, as some scientists promote, it is the effects of rising carbon dioxide in the atmosphere causing more extreme fluctuations. Who knows?
As far as global warming theories go I think the jury hasn’t yet come back with conclusive evidence that the current weather is any more than a normal blip in the patterns that occur but things have seem to gone a bit funny during the last decade or so.
No one can convince me that polluting the air the way we do on this earth is not harming the enviroment in some way. It has to be. I am quite happy to push for a “cleaner energy” future. It is the only way to go in my opinion. And cheaper in the long run.
So, my life keeps rolling along at a very sedentary pace. Nothing happening that is going to set alight interest in the “blogosphere” so I will tune out for now from a very damp Canberra and I hope the day is good whever you may be.
