Friday again and it’s been a long slog to get here.
An interminable week it has been at Australia Post and we are all yearning for the four day Easter break to come quickly.
I could regale my readers with stories of the inadequacies of our Commander in Chief at the mail centre but this is a public blog and as there are a few rats appearing in the ranks of the floor dwellers at work I will keep my powder dry for now. Needless to say I am not impressed with the current management regime.
Other than having to deal with a meglomaniac during work time the week has been a fairly quiet, average affair.
It’s taken about two weeks to get over the flu and I am only just feeling like my old self again now. I figured that my fitness has probably suffered during my period of illness and recovery and so I started to do a bit of walking again this week. Slowly at first on Tuesday as I was still feeling average but the half hour I did around the neighbourhood was almost like being a car having a run after being in the garage for a while and I rapidly improved.
I walked up Mt Wanniassa on Wednesday just in time to see the fog shrouding the Brindabellas lift and watch the surrounding valleys transform into a sun drenched feast for the eyes. It’s times like that I appreciate living where I do. The Tuggeranong Valley is a pleasant vista on a glorious day.
It was a nice walk home on the tracks that wind through the Wanniassa Hills down into the suburbs and the sweaty features that greeted me when I glanced in the bathroom mirror at home gave me confidence that it had been a solid workout.
As I dressed after showering I heard the sound of water running and the realisation dawned on me that our greywater tank may be overflowing which was rather confusing as I have a hose connected to it that runs out into the garden so it should never overflow!
Sure enough, venturing out into the backyard, fighting my way through the foilage to the greywater tank, my worst fears were confirmed with soapy, dirty water slipping out of a full tank creating a muddy morass under our elevated pergola.
I hate this greywater tank. It was installed by the previous tenants of the house and doesn’t work as well as it should and I really need a plumber to look at it and get me on the right track with it’s operations. But as plumbers charge as much as brain surgeons I will leave examination from that sort of expert for a while longer yet!
So, being unable to move the tank as it was full of water my only option was to bale it out. As I dipped the bucket into the murkiness that confronted me I imagined all the bacterial agents present in the tank lining up to attack me and my mind ran through all the nasty lurgies that could result from my greywater adventure.
It didn’t take long to have the tank empty and hosed out and it was soon operating properly as I tested it out by having another quick shower straight away! I fear lint had gathered in the opening valve leading to the external hose and had caused the tank to fill. I haven’t had any more problems with it.
So, when dealing with the fallout from an overflowing greywater tank is the most exciting thing to have happened to a person this week, then you know life hasn’t been very exciting.
It looks like it is going to be another good day today with plenty of sunshine and as I have a bit of time on my hands a longer hike through the hills could be an enjoyable way to spend the morning.
My poor bike is calling my name and I will get around to riding it again shortly but I need to check it out and make sure it is good to go first and that all takes a bit of time.
So for now, the day awaits and I will finish breakfast and venture out into the day. I hope all is well with everyone who wanders in here today. Have a good weekend.
