For the last twenty four hours I have been making deals with myself about getting out and mowing the lawn and doing a bit of work around the place but unfortunately it is the same old story. The clock ticks over to 9.30am and the early morning alertness that permeates my body when I alight from bed starts to dissipate and merely becomes a foggy haze as tiredness reasserts itself.
It doesn’t really matter. The grass is still too wet from the overnight dew to mow yet but come 10am I will be like a cricket umpire inspecting the pitch after a downpour and will see if I can push on with some manual work outside. I’ve got a bit of time up my sleeve but it is important not to dawdle. That’s where I get myself in trouble.
The day has actually dawned bright and clear with some warmth in the air so the grass should be conducive to drying.
The whole yard needs to be worked on. Several trees need to be trimmed and I think it is time to let Linda loose with the hedge trimmer. She really takes it seriously although at times I worry about her because enthusiam when in control of powered equipment sometimes seems to outweigh any concerns she has about safety.
The thing I really hate about trimming trees and hedges is taking it to the tip. It’s all fine cutting things up but getting rid of it is an absolute pain. But, that’s life in a house with an overgrown garden.
So, mowing the lawn will be my priority for today but the rest of the yard will be on the agenda for the weekend. Rain is predicted for Sunday afternoon so a lack of positive action could doom my ambitions for another week if I don’t get myself into gear.
News from the work front has been slow. A regular week of mail sorting but it has been more relaxed than usual. Even our manager has been a lot quieter and much less annoying than he usually is. I hope today continues in the same vain as we slide into the weekend.
Next week will be another short week as Easter is upon us. I will be off to Melbourne for a few days spectating at the World Track Cycling Championships. Looking forward to that but not the long drive to get there.
So, as the morning is slipping away I will move reluctantly from the delights of the information superhighway and get onto some more mundane tasks. Have a good day.
