I’ve decided that it is definitely not self indulgent as it is something I enjoy doing, gives me a creative outlet and perhaps provides an opportunity for people to get to know me better. However I am worrying that it is giving voice to a narcissistic side that isn’t readily apparent when I meet people in the flesh.
I think we all have hidden personality traits that are buried deep inside only becoming visible in certain circumstances and in front of our closest confidants. Vanity is a vice that we all possess and I think that is okay as long as we keep it under control and don’t let it out in the open too often. I think it is a part of the personality make up that actors, writers and anyone who puts their work out to be judged by the public must have. I think a good dose of self confidence must come in handy for those people too as there is always someone prepared to critique the actions and creative performance of others. I’m sure self confidence helps deflect the bad notices when they come.
It momentarily crossed my mind to stop contributing to my blog as writing about myself seemed to be the height of self-absorption but, in the end I figured that as long as I am enjoying myself, what does it matter?
There is never very much of interest to say, just the little things that occur in the course of my mundane life but I will keep going and keep this little record of my existence up to date. I would hate to pass from this world without having left a trace of my being. That is the little piece of vanity surging to the fore I guess. The urge not to be completely forgotten. Here I am.
And so another weekend grinds to a conclusion and the expectations of another working week start to filter into our minds and fill us with apprehension. The pleasant thing about this week of course is that it is short with Good Friday heralding the start of our four day Easter break.
My weekend will be a tad longer as the Tour of Flanders, more or less the heavyweight championship of cycling is being telecast live in Australia tonight and I wouldn’t expect it to finish until about 1.30am
As the name of the race suggests, it is run through the Flemish region of Belgium and is the biggest sporting event in the country and from what I have heard stops the nation.
The Tour de France of course is the blue riband event of the cycling world, the biggest, best and most famous race but as far as the one day classics go, the Tour of Flanders is the big one. It is the first of a series of races which are referred to as “monuments” of the sport so it is a very big deal to have it on your palmares.
And it continues next week! The famous “Paris to Roubaix” over the cobblestones of northern France will be run next Sunday night and will also be live on SBS as will the Liege-Bastogne-Liege classic in a couple of weeks in which most of the Tour de France contenders will be testing their form. So it is a great couple of weeks for cycling fans and if you are not, well, tune in tonight and you might learn what all the fuss is about. I think I may be a little weary tomorrow but it will be worth it.
I hope everyone has had a great weekend and the thought of going back to work tomorrow is not too distressing. Bye for now.
