Another birthday rolls around for me and I am bewildered that I have suddenly reached middle age without really noticing.
It seems like yesterday that I celebrated my thirtieth birthday in my parent’s garage but the following twelve years have gone by in a flash.
I used to look at people who were in their early forties and think that they were obviously mature and had their act together but looking at my own life I think I am barely there when it comes to those two characteristics.
The lesson in life to draw from this is that you really need to get out and enjoy your health while you can. I’ve been lucky in my life in a lot of ways. No real illness or issues that would impact on the way I go about my everyday activities have ever maimed me and with a bit of luck this will continue for some time yet.
So, at forty two I am still going strong but it does seem a little odd to write that number down on the computer screen.
Nothing planned for today. I have a cold but will struggle in to work and do the best I can. The uphill grind through the week to next Saturday has begun again and who knows what trials will put us to the test before we are able to plant our standard at the summit of the weekend and experience that brief moment of exhiliration knowing that we have a couple of days off, a leave pass from “Happiness Island”. For a little while we don’t have to worry about the scourge that bedevils us for the best part of the week and causes most of the complaints that litter our lives.
So I will sign off on this short blog entry and begin to do something useful. I have plenty to do before going to work and better get cracking. Goodbye for now.
