Friday at last! And another disheartening slog through the twists and turns and sloth and greed of the MC is nearly over for the week. Just the eight hour hop today and then two magnificent days of rest and recuperation.
You wouldn’t believe the crap going on in that place at the moment but true to my pledge I will not defecate in my own nest and will obey the commands of the superior beings who congregate in the higher echelons and demand compliance. I will maintain a dignified silence on the deficiencies so glaringly obvious in the place and bubble under at home, seething in my own cauldron at the things I feel have gone astray and the lack of common sense that grips the place like a vice.
I am tired. Tired from work and the nonsense which permeates the place, blanketing the poor unfortunates who work there like a pea soup fog, trapping us in a treacly morass of frustration and depression, turning us into callous, contrary individuals with no care of respect for authority and a desperation born of resentment, driving us to scour the employment section of the papers each Saturday morning like a scientist peering devotedly through squinting eyes at the molecules under his microscope, hoping beyond hope that a miracle may occur, providing a better world for themselves and their family.
I’m also tired from watching the Tour de France and the optimism I had at the start of this regular sporting odyssey that our own Cadel Evans may have the form to go back to back has quickly disipated as he has struggled to hold the wheels of the other leading contenders.
He is still holding down fourth overall which of course is a magnificent effort but those in front of him are fellows I have no taste for and the colour of the Tour has faded to grey for me this year and I may pack up my tent and leave this years race for others to analyse.
Of course I may not be able to live up to this well claimed statement, the lure of the Tour is strong and my promise not to be seduced by it’s charms my look quite hollow by the end of next week. We shall see.
So for all of those people slaving away at tasks which bore you silly and blow your mind, remember, absolution is near. Saturday and Sunday are nearly upon us and it is every working persons duty to live those two days to the best of their ability, for lurking in the not too distant future is the bogeyman of work, waiting to ensnare us yet again in it’s web and the boss man, self conscious and shallow, who can only justify his own existence by forcing the obedience of others and bending them to his will.
Good luck!
