The curtain is slowly being drawn on 2013 and the New Year is creeping up on us like a late tide which will swallow us whole before we know it. Christmas is done and dusted and we are in that precarious “nether world”, a sort of twilight zone in regards to work where many of us have to attend but there is really no point doing so as there is actually nothing much to do.
I have to return to work on Monday, going through the motions lazily on the slowest day of the year and I must tread the boards again on Tuesday before receiving a reprieve in the shape of New Years Day. I return hale and hearty in 2014 for two days before taking leave for a couple of weeks. To say I can’t wait for that would be an understatement!
It’s been a good year. A year which has passed quickly and deposited me where I am today with head spinning speed. I have travelled to Europe and fulfilled some life long ambitions by doing so, became a published author, albeit on a minor scale and it has left me searching the far horizons for some new challenges.
2014 is dawning and I look to it with some trepidation as life for me personally in this new year will be different, busy and possibly life changing. Some family matters are pending which will make a world of difference in this little capsule of life which I inhabit and my job appears to be falling apart around me as the horse and cart gives way to the motor car, a metaphor of the changing face of communications in which the letter is replaced by email and other assorted advances in technology and leaves a trail of detritus behind.
And so as we draw down on 2013 and look ahead to 2014 I would like to wish everyone the best for the year ahead and sincerely hope it is prosperous for us all. We deserve it.
