Tradesmen have been here putting the finishing touches on our bathroom although the glass for the shower won’t arrive until next week and the painter was due yesterday but cancelled and re-booked himself for an appearance today at 8am but as I sit here at 8.30am he is yet to arrive.
I can’t complain too much. We have let our joiner project manage the job and every sub-contractor has arrived on the money so far and done a good job. Except the painter. Which is a pretty good strike rate I think.
Having people moving through our house hasn’t enabled me to be too prolific with my writing as I haven’t wanted to sit on the computer all morning while they are here and our bathroom leads to our bedroom so it would be uncomfortable to work on my Blog while tradesmen do their stuff a few metres away.
So, with a few minutes to spare as I wait for the painter to arrive I thought it would be a good time to jot down a few lines.
Linda and I have gotten into a bad habit of watching television in bed and we get hooked occasionally on late night fare and don’t switch it off until midnight. That is all well and good but it leaves Linda and myself in a rather lethargic state when an early start to the day is compulsory.
This morning was one such day and Linda was up and away early not before lamenting the fact that she was awake until midnight watching some silly American drama. She was a a little weary and I can understand that as I wasn’t feeling too keen to face the day myself.
I have been getting up at the crack of dawn to move cars so the denizens of the house are not parked in by our workmen and once I am up there is no point going back to bed so I will be looking forward to the finish of our project and an extended stay in bed on one of these precious mornings.
I have also been writing a short story which has taken up some of my time this week.
I am a little bit embarrassed to tell about it as it is a story in a specific genre of which I don’t have much practice in but am having a go at in any case. It’s an erotic short story.
Linda has a crazy idea that I can write Mills and Boons stories, not a thought bubble that would have popped into my head but as these sorts of dime a dozen novels are churned out as fast as the printing piece can produce them, there must be coin in it.
I really don’t think I am going to be sending a manuscript to Mills and Boon any time soon but I am having a practice run at writing something a bit more raunchy than my usual fare and I must say it’s not that easy!
Now don’t get excited, the short story is not for publication. It’s just giving me some practice at writing such fare and as the two main protagonists are based on people with whom a have an acquaintance, it is better to keep it that way. It will be destroyed at the completion of the tale.
As I said, it’s not that easy writing erotic literature and I may have to do some research and see what other authors do when their characters get down and dirty.
All of us have some life experience of the “wildside” so to speak but putting it into an entertaining form really is hard work!
My painter has now arrived and gotten down to business so it is time to leave Blogging behind for the day and make out I am doing something productive around the house before going to work and the drudgery of eight hours of my own job.
Take care and don’t forgot to occasionally take a walk on the wildside yourself!
Have a nice day.
