Onward to Australia Day!

I haven’t exactly been setting the world on fire with prodigious output on my blog lately and I am struggling to explain my apparent torpor. 2014 ended with me bereft of enthusiasm and ideas and 2015 has begun the same. But I am putting something down on the screen and that is a positive. Keeping up to date is one of the most important aspects of blogging. It’s not exciting but here I am.

The evening of my last blog post, last Saturday in fact, I found myself heaving in the toilet half the night, struck down apparently by a bug which seem determined to detach my intestines from the rest of my body and dispose of them in the sewer system. Very unpleasant but most of us know how it feels.
It took me a good three days to get over it. I think your system, digestive tract and stomach all take time to resume their normal rhythm after such a trauma and I felt off colour for a few days after my initial illness but seem to be fine now. Factor work into the equation and it was a rugged week of survival but the headlights of a long weekend have appeared on the horizon and it should be an easy slide for the rest of the day.
I have bitten the bullet and enrolled in a bit of online training again. My last effort ended with me throwing away a good start because I could not get an exercise right and instead of seeking help I blew the program off. Not this time. I am determined to succeed.
There are a few clouds on the horizon at work and major changes seem imminent. The wing has tipped, the spiral has begun and I am expecting to see the ocean filling the windscreen at some point this year or soon at least. I need to give myself something to fall back on. Encouragement from all who read and follow would be appreciated. I have been a bit of a “non-finisher” all my life so need all the petting and pushing I can get.
I would eventually like to study something significant. Editing takes my fancy although it may be too much for my limited span of concentration to endure but something to do with writing would fit me. Just need to find the right groove to slip into.
I also like the idea of event management although talking to people and encouraging them to help me arrange and organize and sponsor events would be an ordeal for someone like me who is rather reticent to be sociable. My goal in life is to be sporting event promoter. A pipe dream for sure but we all have them don’t we?
But for now my focus is on starting my new course, a simple affair teaching office management tasks, and fit it and arrange it into the pattern of my life as I continue to work and train for my hiking trip in New Zealand in February and of course fulfill the duties of the rest of my life which cannot be ignored. It’s going to be an interesting year!
I am off to Wangaratta tomorrow. It is my traditional sojourn to the annual Athletics and Cycling carnival, held each Australia Day weekend for nearly a century, which is now more time-worn than time-honoured. I don’t know why they persevere with it given the lack of entries for the cycling and lack of interest of the general public in the town. My great dream is to promote the carnival myself but I fear it will be long gone before I could realize such an ambition, the fairy tale that it is. Still, a relaxing weekend it should be, visiting the town of my birth, away from the hustle and worry of work and doing something I enjoy even though I lament the passing of the era of big country sport carnivals.
I hope you all have a great Australia Day. We live in a great country and are very lucky. Very lucky indeed. We need to thankful for what we have, accept that all nations have a few black marks and move on for it seems unity will be important in the years ahead. A nation which forgets it’s history and it’s heritage is barely a nation at all.
 Until next time.
