Back at work and it’s a bit of a killer although it hasn’t been as bad as it could have been I suppose. It has caught up with me today and I am feeling a bit tired but it won’t kill me.
I am slowly coming down from the highs of my holidays. It almost seems like a dream. A surreal passage of time which really didn’t happen, it only coalesced in my consciousness, tormenting me in this reality now I am back at work.
I have been dreading my return to the salt-mines. I trained on a new machine about two months ago and haven’t used it yet as I have been away so of course I have forgotten all that I learned. I am not looking forward to being told I have to use it and having to reveal that I really can’t remember the first thing about how to operate it! It is no hassle as someone will be tasked to help me out until I get the hang of it but it is embarrassing forgetting all that you are supposed to know.
One good thing about getting back to work is that it forces you back into a routine. I had two weeks to spare after I got back from New Zealand and really didn’t use it to any great effect. You feel you have time to do all your chores but get to the end of the day having achieved nothing. Working changes all that.
I have begun an online business course. Nothing spectacular, just a Certificate 2, something to give me a little bit of a lift out of the job I am doing now. I had written to the course provider and let them know I would be in New Zealand for two weeks but I really struggled to complete the unit I was doing when I got home. Getting back into routine this week saw me finish it although it was a bit slapdash but I will at least get feedback and be able to fix any mistakes quickly.
I am notorious for not finishing things I start but I am determined to finish this course and do it well. I would like to move on and get another job, broaden my horizons and yes, perhaps make a little more money. I have grand plans to do more study after this but I will keep my sights lowered for the moment and just try to get this modest effort completed first. Wish me luck!
So, that is really all that is happening to me at the moment. John Lennon’s quote that “Life is what happens while you are making other plans” seems to be particularly relevant. But, I will leave you today with a reminder of my trip to New Zealand, a video clip of a lovely waterfall in the back country of the South Island featuring my travelling companions who unwittingly are the stars of my blog today.
Take care and have a great day.
