It had to come to this eventually-I have reached the last day of my leave. Just a regular weekend to go and I will be back with my nose to the grindstone, wallowing in the misery of paid employment with the rest of the unfortunates who populate the place.
I am a little bit perturbed. Our system of work changed on January 4 so I will be confronting new procedures and a new way of doing things which is a bit nerve-wracking. Just have to ask questions and not do the usual thing and try to muddle through and pretend that it wasn’t me who made that mistake!
To be quite honest I have had enough of the place. It has been good to me. It’s paid for my house, overseas trips, cars and kept me healthy and happy, clean and fed. But, things have changed and whilst I have never liked the job much, it’s boring and monotonous, it has been bearable most of the time-just! But with the wholesale changes which have been visited upon us and with new personnel in charge of the place I just feel I have run my race. I’m just dead wood going through the motions. I’m treading water as I get swept downstream. I need a challenge and a new horizon to aim at.
I know, you have heard it all before and after 29 years at the same place some will doubt I have the ability or even the willingness to change. Ha! How wrong you are!
The change of regime at work has compelled me to challenge myself and I have signed up to the Australian Public Service website and will be alerted to any jobs which fit the search criteria which I have recorded onsite. Most departments and agencies have employment registers and dip into them when they need staff. Who knows-somewhere in the vast bureaucracy that runs the country they made need someone to empty the garbage or run errands or check security passes. I may jag or new job somewhere. In any case you have to be in it to win it don’t you? I need to write a resume and polish it up. Not that it will amount to much but I am going to try. 2016 will be a year of change I hope. Change for the better I hope.
Onward and upward and a cheer and a wish for a new beginning.
Have a nice day.
