Merry Christmas from Strange Notations

Where does time go? Christmas is upon us already and it seems the minutes have flown by like a torrent, crashing down the stream of life, barely giving us time to breathe so it seems. Landmarks, friends, family, occasions, special moments all capture our attention for a brief, shining moment before the effusion of life, that cascading, turbulent brook, carries us on and away forever, leaving only the smudge of a memory imprinted on our minds. It too will fade in time, leaving us only a sense of how we felt. Such is life.

Life is very much lived in the here and now. Can you remember the conversations you had yesterday? The lively banter with workmates? The jokes, the small talk, the unimportant matters which are really only fillers in your life? I can barely remember what was said to me this morning by loved ones.  But here I am now, writing my feelings and thoughts down, trying to get a hard copy of my existence, or my interpretation of it, down on this blog. Why? I guess it’s my attempt to remain. An effort to obtain immortality (ambitious I know!). Life is so precious but the moments you cherish are gone in what seems like the batting of an eyelid. There is nothing we can do about it of course. It goes by so quickly. Live it and love it is all us mortals can do. We may not remember exactly what we did today but we will know how life made us feel. I hope you all are feeling great.

I didn’t intend to get all introspective today. I was trying to write something a bit poignant at this special and sentimental time of year and it just came out. I hope I haven’t put ambition above ability but it’s been a while since I posted. Life has been good. I’ve been painting and just finished our dining room yesterday and have called it quits for the year. Still have to do a little touching up around the place (I’m no professional painter!) and do the ceilings and another wall in the lounge room and entry but the harder graft is done for 2018. Now just to tie up a few loose ends and we are set for the festive season.

I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas. Be happy and patient and kind to all and sundry. It is the season of goodwill to all men (or should that be all people in this day and age?). The rat race will be on again soon enough and we will all be carried away in it so take a few days to calm down and zone out.

I hope to be back again before the New Year rises but until then, enjoy yourselves and all those close to you. Merry Christmas.
