And we’re back. Two months since my last entry and I am finally finding the wherewithal to get some notes down on my blog. Of course I’ve been away for six weeks-yes, to the far side of the world so I haven’t had time to sit quietly and gather my thoughts as I have been on the move. I guess that means that I will never make it as a travel writer. Then again, getting paid to write would probably aid my motivation if that was the case. Nevermind.
I’m home to the glacial chill of Canberra, snow on the hills and all, after spending some of my winter in the European summer. I don’t intend to give a blow by blow description of my travels but I am willing to make an effort to discuss anything a reader might like to know about but needless to say it was a great trip. From the City of Light to the Highlands of Scotland to the capital of the European union to the charms of Winston Churchill’s place of birth, we got around and saw plenty. We learnt a lot, had our moments and some interesting experiences but made it through in one piece.
We saw the sanguine field of Waterloo in Belgium, the melancholy moor of Culloden in Scotland and the unstaunched sand of Omaha Beach in France. We saw the road warriors of the Tour de France and sailed the dusky waters of Loch Ness. We walked in Hitler’s malevolent footsteps in Paris and watched with spellbound delight as the Iron Lady winked at us every night.
So, plenty of stories to be told and I hope to relay some over the coming weeks. I hope you all are ready?! It’s a brave new world for me now. Facing the prospect of finding work and consolidating the next chapter of my life is making me nervous and anxious. It’s a new dawn, a new start. Bring it on!
