Muddling Through, Muddling On

when will you return signage

And…..I’m back! Yes, you can’t get rid of me that easily although I’m sure there hasn’t been a legion of people waking up at night because they haven’t seen a blog post from “Strange Notations from a Laborious Life” for six weeks. I just don’t seem to be able to rev myself up to write anything notable. It really has been a laborious life since I returned from Europe.

I was reading through some of my blog posts from years gone by (and yes, it’s years now!) and wondered to myself why my output has fallen away. No more meandering thoughts on the state of the world. No more contemplation on why cycling is the best sport on the planet. No more naive takes on politics or historical events. And I’m stumped. I seem to have lost my blogging mojo. But I’m not going anywhere.

I recently saw an interview with a visiting British comedian who lamented the fact that comedians are not doing political comedy anymore. It seems people simply don’t find it funny. Audiences are so sick of political nonsense and the charades that pass for political discourse in the western world nowadays that no one reacts to it. People want to be entertained but there is nothing funny about politics anymore. I can sort of relate. I have lost interest in the world as no one seems to be able to have a joke without upsetting someone or a whole community getting their noses put out of joint. Then you have the non-politically correct people who are just as opinionated but seem intent on pushing views which were popular when Moses was a boy or who are just plain nasty or tell lies, either deliberately or because it has become a habit or they just don’t realise they are telling them anymore! Then there are the rest of us who are caught in the middle who just want to enjoy life and have a bit of fun without being offensive or offended.

Of course some of my lack of endeavor as a blogger may relate to the fact that life really has been somewhat laborious lately. I haven’t left town since I returned from my holiday and there has really been, apart from tedious world events and horrid politicians doing horrid political things, much to write about from a personal point of view.

Linda and I on the Nevis Range, Scotland. July 2019.

I have decided to hunker down, get myself through to Christmas and live in hope that some enlightenment will shake me down come the year 2020. It’s a milestone year for me as I knock up a half century in age. I intend to make it a good one.

Hopefully it won’t be six weeks until you hear from me again. Until next time, I’ll keep muddling through.

Cheers.
