It’s been a while since my last post; the creative spark burns on low nowadays but I feel the need to check in and update my blog from time to time- it remains a bit of a laborious life yet I haven’t had many strange notations to make.
How are we all recovering? Covid-19 remains at large in the world but, inevitably, governments are rushing to restore some sort of normality in spite of the public health dangers still all too readily apparent. And humanity remains largely the same as always. Those hoping to re-enter life and find some brave new world where love and hope and vision prevail will no doubt be disenchanted. I’ve noticed myself, driving to work in the mornings the steady increase in traffic as the proletariat slowly filter back into their normal places of work. One can’t help but notice on the news civil strife around the world caused by disenfranchisement and competing views of the world and the place of all of us in it. Sad. Nothing ventured, nothing changed.
Life, in all it’s minutiae, has to go on for the rest of us. I have never been a social person but I must say the restrictions have chaffed a little and although I quite enjoyed the serenity of a morning drive to work without the traffic snarls of old, I am glad to be able to watch a game of footy again and partake in some of those things which we always take for granted.
I turned 50 on May 28. As I said I am not a particularly social person but approaching a milestone birthday had provided some clarity and there are many people who have shaped my life who I haven’t seen for some time and I thought a gathering on such an auspicious occasion would fit the bill. Alas, it wasn’t to be. I had been thinking about it for 12 months so there was quite a tinge of unexpected disappointment as the proposed date rolled around. Damn Coronavirus! Canberra restrictions have eased somewhat but I believe June 19 may be the day the screw will be unwound even further and allow far more social contact. Perhaps a belated, truncated birthday party will be the ticket? We’ll see.
So, it’s one foot in front of the other and I look forward to writing again soon when the world is back on a more even keel.
