Welcome to 2021! Yes, I know I’m late and we have already been leaning into the new year for a couple of weeks but it’s the first time I have been motivated to write in sometime.
2021 already. You can only wonder where the years go. I turned 50 last year and so I began this new chapter of history by promising myself all the usual things-I’ll be a better person, more sociable, more positive etcetera. I must say it’s been a slow start.
The numbers on the calendar change and things slow down for a while after Christmas but at the end of the day it’s still the same old world with the same old problems. Covid rampant in Europe and the USA and other parts of the world not faring much better. And it’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
In Australia we have fared better than most despite some bad moments. It seems we are always one step away from disaster though. From overseas travellers escaping quarantine, to infected hotel cleaners wandering our cities to unknown and unlinked infections causing our medical fraternity headaches, it seems one wrong move could see a mass outbreak.
Then you get those, who are present in every country it seems, who just want to live with the virus. Let it run it’s course. Leave business up and running and leave humanity to the survival of the fittest. Yes, these people exist and although everyone is entitled to an opinion of course I am a believer in the maxim that a society is judged by how we treat the weakest among us. Yes, things are inconvenient but as a species we have surely endured worse. Let’s see how the vaccine roll out goes across the world and hopefully we can get a grip on this malicious virus and get back to our regular behaviour soon.
As for me, life has resumed it’s usual rhythm. Work, sleep, trying to squeeze some enjoyment into leisure time on weekends which seem to pass oh so quickly. I continue to muse on ideas which will see me be able quit work yet survive comfortably but none are realistic unfortunately. So, 2021, here we are, here we go. More of the same or bigger and better things awaiting us all? I guess we will find out.
