It’s an auspicious day. A day of history. The anniversary of a great event. 10 years since a consequential moment in time! Hmmm. I can almost hear the cogs creaking in your brains. A great event? Who died on this day? What great feat of gallantry or endurance was enacted? Who was elected? Who won what sporting event? Ten years ago. So near yet so far. Well I’ll tell you. It’s ten years since the birth of “Strange Notations from a Laborious Life”!! Drum roll please. Get out the trumpets and start the fanfare. Who would have thought it would survive a decade?
Yes, February 27, 2011 saw the creation of this blog, albeit on another platform, with a first, non-descript post being written, introducing myself and hoping to write a bit about my life and what was happening in it. I guess I have achieved that at least and although the literary content has never risen to any great height, it’s been a bit of fun and a constant companion since it’s inception. Over 500 posts have been written since then and although my productivity has slowed to a mere crawl over the last few years, I don’t intend to abandon my blog anytime soon.
When I started writing I suppose it was an outlet. A stream of consciousness to let off steam about work and life although I have been careful for the most part to be discreet. Mostly. I also used to write about anything that took my fancy other than everyday things. I am no expert in anything much but in this day and age that doesn’t stop people writing about politics, climate change, world events or history does it? Mostly it’s been about making some space in the world for myself. Trying not to live anonymously. To leave something for the ages to show I actually existed.
I have been thinking of ways to celebrate. I thought of competitions, giveaways or various other prizes to hand out as a birthday thank you to those who have stuck around and read a post or two. But alas, it came to nothing and all we have is this anniversary day post to refresh the blog and begin it’s next ten years.
So now, thanks for reading and I will try to hold up my end of the bargain and write some decent content in the coming year. Don’t hesitate to drop me a line with ideas or just to say hi. Any (polite) interaction is welcome. Onwards and upwards!
