It’s beautiful late spring morning in the Australian Capital Territory. The sun is shining, not a cloud in the sky. The birds are singing, dogs are barking and the neighbours have already revved up their lawn mowers and perturbed any notion of a peaceful lie in for much of the street.
Jet contrails, stretching east to west betray the travellers, early risers heading from Sydney to Melbourne. One wonders what people are up to, journeying between the two great metropolises on this marvellous Sunday morning. I hope they have great day.
It is one of those mornings that takes me back to that old saying, “You wouldn’t be dead for quids!” and despite the travails of our modern lives, it is an apt description for me at least today.
Linda is still in bed. She has always been one to savour a lie in but now in particular she enjoys the warm comfort of her bed even more than before, the medicinal therapy preserving life and limb now zapping some of her bubbly energy. But she is going okay.
She has done three rounds of chemotherapy and it seems to be doing its job though she tires quickly but is living life to the best of her ability as she always has. She had another round of scans last Thursday and the preliminary report seems to be positive but an appointment with her oncologist on Tuesday will tell us exactly what we need to know. We hope for the best but are prepared for anything.
We have had a pretty good week. It’s amazing to see how many great people, family and friends are prepared to help us out and it is quite humbling when they do so. I can never repay the kindness but I hope they realise what it means to us. Linda has had friends who live on the other side of the city come and spend hours with her. One of her closest friends cleaned our house right through on Thursday and a conglomerate of people, all of whom Linda and I think the world of came around and cleaned up the mess that was our front yard yesterday and it now looks fantastic. I won’t embarrass these people by naming them on this blog but they know who they are and I hope they know how much they are appreciated by me but most of all by Linda.
Linda has led a good and decent life and tried to be a loyal friend and support to others and some of that effort is coming home to roost. She deserves it.
So, our journey continues and many snares await us yet but we will continue on and try our best to enjoy life. I hope you do too.
