I’m back from a week out west with the family and straight back into the run of the mill of normal life. From Dubbo yesterday morning to dual hospital visits in Canberra to check and monitor Linda’s progress with her illness today, it’s almost like I never left.
Once again Linda’s results have been good. In fact they have been so good that everything has become quite casual and quick. A blood test, perusal from an oncologist, chemotherapy tablets handed over and we are on our way. I don’t like getting too comfortable with the procedure as it always seems too good to be true but as I have said before, we are in the hands of the medical professionals, and we can only follow their direction and they seem to have done us alright so far.
We are always mindful of the fact that Linda’s cancer can’t be cured and can only be held at bay for so long, but she is certainly a mile ahead of where we were this time last year. In fact, it is one year since we got the terrible diagnosis that her cancer had returned and is incurable but she has battled on and is in a lot better and healthier space today. Long may it continue!
Linda’s health has in fact shaded mine, at least outwardly lately. It seems like one thing after another in regard to my health. Nothing serious, just annoying little problems popping up, requiring trips to the doctor and the inevitable financial penalty which comes from it. My latest little hiccup is gout. A couple of chronic attacks have seen me hobbled and I can at least have an ironic giggle to myself as Linda bounds away (!) at the shops whilst I bring up the rear like a hobbled donkey. My father suffered badly from gout and they say it can be hereditary so thanks for that one pops!
I always remember him saying that his feet never felt the same after his chronic bouts of gout and I have found my foot has not completely recovered. There is always a lingering soreness although the swelling and redness has gone. I also had a slight attack in my other foot whilst away and I can only imagine the difficulty of having an attack in both feet at the same time. So, it’s off to the doctor again tomorrow and hopefully something can be done as I can see life could be severely curtailed as a result of gout.
As I wrote, I have spent the last week in Parkes and Dubbo, visiting some places I haven’t seen or haven’t been to in a long time. I. visited Western Plains Zoo on primary school trip and I rode my first ever professional track cycling carnival at Dubbo when I was 15. I ran 2nd in the Nyngan to Dubbo bike race a few years later but it’s the first time I have visited since then and it sure has grown into a large enough city. Also visited Parkes and its famous radio telescope, “The Dish” and perused their Elvis Presley exhibition and historical museum. They certainly have built an industry around the “King of Rock n Roll” and good luck to them.
So, it’s back to the normal grind of life and I will be back again soon to fill you all in on more adventures in this laborious life.
Until then.
