The War Drums Beat-But Life Goes On

Oh boy! What a world we are living in at the moment. Yeah, it’s never been plain sailing on the world scene but it’s particularly depressing at the moment. War in Ukraine. War in the Middle East. Cracks and fissures opening up in our own country due to the late referendum. Protestors taking to the streets for various causes. I wish I could go back to bed and forget about it all.

The world seems to be full of crackpots, creating their own narratives as they go along. The internet only fuels this nonsense. It’s possibly mankind’s greatest invention but it’s so available for use and abuse that it’s scary. There was a time that raucous views and those who espouse them were quickly and emphatically ignored and the mainstream of society was left to move on with their own lives relatively unmolested. Now, every halfwit with a radical idea can find allies and soulmates on the internet in their thousands-and cause a ruckus for the rest of us.

It’s not just the nutbag right-wingers. The loony lefties are just as fanatical bordering on zealotry. The world never got anywhere with that sort of stuff. Accepting differing points of view, giving ground and coming to an agreement, even if it’s not exactly what you want has always been the only way forward. War and devastation is the only other option. Honestly, I am a bit perplexed and scared by the world at the moment. All the little people like us can do is suck on it and move on. I have enough troubles of my own to worry about.

It’s been a while since my last entry but all is going ok. Linda is tracking well with her illness despite a bit of a drift in her cancer markers and some increasing pain in her bones from the ravages of cancer but her oncologist, who we saw yesterday was relatively happy with her progress and basically wants to keep doing what we have been doing. He has a few things up his sleeve, such as a new treatment that wasn’t available twelve months ago when Linda was diagnosed, but he seems keen to keep that in his arsenal for the moment. Unfortunately, it’s very likely we will need it in the future-but not too soon I hope.

As for myself, things have been going well. The problems with my feet and recurring gout seem to have faded away and I am generally feeling ok, if not a little stressed and tired at times due to life throwing its curve balls at us but all in all, I can’t complain too much.

Between here and Christmas I have a trip to Melbourne, continuing medical appointments, and hopefully a bit of time to relax before the big man in the red suit arrives. I hope to get back to you before then.

Goodbye for now.
