Well it has been a big news week! Hot on the heels of the Royal Wedding comes the killing by US Special Forces of the world’s most wanted man Osama Bin Laden.
Little did we know that at the exact time that the newly married Royal couple were standing on the balcony at Buckingham Palace waving to the crowd, US President Barack Obama was putting his signature to the orders to send US Navy Seal Team 6 covertly into Pakistan to begin what has turned out to be one of the greatest Commando raids in military history!
Whilst the whole world was engaged with their eyes fixed on London the President was looking the other way and ordered the operation. It’s an old tactic. Use a big world event to hide your intentions. But it’s a good one!
President Obama has proven to be a very subtle operator. It was a gutsy call to put men on the ground in a so-called “friendly” country and fight their way into a heavily fortified compound without knowing for sure whether or not their target was there. He is now copping a bit of diplomatic heat about violating Pakistani sovereignty, whether the killing was lawful, etc etc, but I am sure he weighed all that up when he made his decision to go. I think it was the right one.
I don’t think the United States feels the need to apologize to anyone and I don’t think they will. Men like Bin Laden and his associates use the lowest form of tactics to achieve their aims, have no regard for human life, corrupt one of the great religions of the world all the time whilst hiding behind this facade that they are men of God. I think the only way to deal with them is to use extreme violence and let them know that no matter where they are or how long it takes, if you order terrorist attacks against the United States you will face retribution in the end. It may just make them think twice. It is the only way to deal with cowards.
As for those raging against  the “unlawful” killing of Mr Bin Laden, well, I don’t think anyone has the right to second guess a US soldier standing in a room with the world’s most feared terrorist, a man who has ordered the murder of thousands and gloated about it, knowing that he probably is not wanting to be taken alive, and then say he should have tried harder not to kill him. I would think that particular soldier is never going to have to buy himself a drink ever again!
So there is my rant for the day and if I have offended anybody reading this I apologize but I have strong feeling on these things and how they should be handled. I think the Yanks got it right this time.

In personal news it’s been a bit of a different week for me. I did day shift on Tuesday and Wednesday for the first time in 5 years. Starting at 10.39am was certainly different and truncated the day somewhat but I got through it without too much trouble. It was nice to have a bit of a change and Linda was happy to have me home in the evenings but I have to admit I am really glad to be back to normal today.
Everything on day shift seems to be a rush. Rush in the mornings because you don’t have the normal amount of time to do things and whilst it is nice to be home earlier, 6.25pm really isn’t that early. Home by 7 and dinner and it’s almost bed time. As I said, nice for a change but I wouldn’t want to do it regularly.
And today I have time to write my blog and do the other things I like to do before work. Hassle free!
The week roles on.  Not long till another weekend which I am looking forward to. Hope all of you who read my blog are going well and I will write again soon.
